Mistake #1: Not Showing UP
I know, it's kind of a "duh" tip, but you would be surprised how many group owners I see who get this part wrong. 

Basically, they think if they create the group and shoot out a few posts or comments, their work is done. 

But here's the part they are missing...

Their job has only just begun. 

Think about it...

How many times have you joined a group and found it to be either lacklustre, or full of people pimping out their own stuff? 

Personally? I've seen it happen a LOT. 

Want to know why it happens? 

Because the group owner isn't there. 

They aren't showing up, having a stable and consistent presence, and they aren't focused on creating a supportive and engaging community culture. 

Which makes their groups feel "meh". 

And more often than not people leave. 

Why? 

Because there isn't anything to keep them there. 

There is no pull...

No lure...

No magic. 
How Can You Avoid this Mistake?​​​​​​​
Pffft, simple!

You've just gotta show up and have a consistent presence in your group. 

That means carving out time each and every day to pop into your group, answer questions, support and encourage your members and participate in the community you've created. 

This is something I talk a lot about inside our mini course, Engage: Growing Your Business with Facebook Groups, however using our group as an example, I (Jill) make it a habit to pop into my group at least once a day to chat with our members, answer questions, share helpful content and encourage the community to keep going for their dreams. 

Simply put, I'm consistent and persistent with my presence. 

Does that mean I'm spending hours a day in there? 

Not at all. 

Instead, I try to limit my time to 30-60 minutes per day. 

And if you don't feel as though you have an extra hour each day, then start with 15 minutes. 

We all have 15 minutes. 

What's more is that 15 minutes a day, will change the game for your business.

Mistake #2: Making It About You
Ugh! This one is SO huge. 

Too often I see group owners going on and on and on about themselves, why they are oh-so-awesome and how you can and should learn from them. 

And that's all well and good... 

I'm sure they are amazing at what they do. 

But here's the thing...

This group is NOT about them...or you, for that matter. 

It's about the community. It's about the members. 

Now if you're having a bit of a "huh?" moment, don't sweat. 

Think about it: When you create a community, you do it to serve your members. 

Therefore it's not actually about you, it's about THEM. 

It's about being there for them, supporting them, encouraging them, answering their questions and listening to them. 

It's about talking to them like you would talk to a friend. 
How Can You Avoid this Mistake?​​​​​​​
Easy. 

Don't talk AT them, talk TO them. 

Ask them questions. 

Give them a platform. 

Spotlight them. 

Post icebreakers or conversation starters. 

Listen to them. 

Invite them to share their work, a little-known fact about themselves, or a goal they are working towards. 

Ask them what they are struggling with and how you can help them. 

This is such an important thing to keep in mind, because while you are trying to build a engaging community people want to be a part of, you're still doing it with the end goal of building your business. 

So be purposeful, but giving. 

Make it about them, and not just you and your brand. 

Trust me, people will notice (and appreciate) the level of care you commit to your community.

Mistake #3: Over-Promotion
We all hate it, don't we? 

Getting "sold" to? 

Getting pitched? 

Having this launch or that promotion shoved down our throats?

It's the worst. 

What's more is it can ruin your group. 

Now this isn't to say you can't promote or sell in your group...because you absolutely can and SHOULD!

But it should be done strategically and with purpose. 

Be honest...

Have you ever been in a group where it felt like a constant sales pitch? 

Whether it was the group owner or some random members, did it make you want to do a mental eye-roll? 

I've been there. 

Fortunately, there is a way to effortlessly promote and sell in your group. 

How? 

Surveys and sales funnels.
